The more you please others, the less respected you will be.
That’s right.
A person without a value system will live like a mistletoe, depending on the opinions of those around them. They will try to please everyone. And in the end, they live in isolation and lose themselves.
Life’s paradox “the more you please others, the less respect you get” – a lesson I learned from Mark Manson. When you start to STOP pleasing others, you are building your self-esteem. You become strong, decisive, respected, and finally in control of your life.
So, how do you determine your value system?
Values are what matters in your life (not someone else’s). You need to ignore other people’s opinions and start valuing your desires. Take some time alone to take your mind off the drama. At this time, you reflect on the past, observe the present, and look toward the future. Ask yourself, what matters most to you?
For example: Health – Family – Career – Integrity – Compassion
Pin it to the head. Whenever you need to decide, prioritize what positively impacts your value system and ignore what doesn’t.
Start valuing yourself. Appreciate the values you aim for. That’s how you give yourself the best things. Every decision is in your hands. No one else does it better than you.
